Take to the slopes of Mission Ridge

Ski activities on Mission Ridge

Winter in Wenatchee feels incomplete without a trip to the mountains. Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort, which first opened to the public on December 11, 1966, fills this void. Avid skiers, snowboarders, and outdoor enthusiasts shouldn’t pass up a visit to this 404-hectare winter mountain paradise.

Terrain

Mission Ridge’s unique location (in a basin on the eastern part of the Cascade Mountains) grants it some of the best conditions for skiing in the entire state. 300 days of sunshine help produce its characteristically dry powder, which expert skiers relish for the “floating on air” feeling it provides.

The total skiable terrain at Mission Ridge is 2,000 acres, covering a vertical range of 2,250 feet that peaks at 6,820 feet. Within this area are three terrain parks and 500 acres that are open to night skiing. One of the best rewards this mountain ski resort offers is a view of the Cascades that grows more majestic as you ascend.

Activities

The ski resort is a popular destination for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. 60% of its 36 trails were designed for intermediate skiers, while another 30% are considered advanced. Despite having fewer runs available, beginners can still have a great time at Mission Ridge. As a ski resort with a small-mountain vibe, it never gets too crowded, so learners have plenty of space for practicing new skills.

For a less strenuous day on the mountain, opt to snowshoe with your family instead. Mission Ridge has two designated trails for snowshoeing: Clara Lake, which will take you near two lakes and through larch trees on a beginner-friendly path; and Stemilt Basin, which involves a 2,000-foot elevation drop and requires more advanced snowshoeing (best for adults and older kids).

Facilities

The ski resort’s six lifts make access to most of the mountain easy, even to elevations as high as 6,700 feet. Equipment rentals are available on-site and beginners can enroll in the ski school to learn the sport from the patient and friendly staff.

The mid-mountain lodge is open for food and beverages. Takeout options can be eaten at the many outdoor seating areas and online orders are highly encouraged.

Getting there

Mission Ridge is about 13 miles away from Wenatchee, WA. In previous years, a SkiLink bus would take visitors to the resort from Wenatchee but the line has suspended service for this season.

The best way to get to the ski resort is by car (fitted with tire chains for better traction in the snow). To get there from Wenatchee, take S Mission Street and continue southbound onto Squilchuck Road/Highway 711. Drive along the highway for about seven miles until it forks into Squilchuck Road and Mission Ridge Road. Take Mission Ridge Road all the way up to the resort.
